The kick-off meeting of MUREE was held in Princess Sumaya University for Technology, grant holder, in the period 14-15 November 2012. Representatives of all 12 partners have attended the meeting and a series of decisions have been made including a road of the project for the first year of its lifetime.
Professor Abdallah Al-Zoubi, project manager, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, and Dr Katiuscia Cipri, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy attended the annual Tempus conference held in Brussels in the period 26-27 November 2012, to have a closer look at Tempus guidelines and instructions on administrative and financial management of projects.
A team from PSUT and Hashemite University has visited UNED, Spain in the period 18-22 February 2013 in order to select, design and install a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and 4 renewable energy remote labs in Jordanian universities.
A workshop was hosted by Graz University of Technology, Austria, in the period 9-13 April 2013 to discuss renewable energy curricula updating and to develop a capacity building programme in renewable energy for Jordanian partner institutions. All project partners participated in the workshop.
A progress meeting was held at Princess Sumaya University for Technology in the period 4-5 November 2013. The purpose of the meeting was to monitor the status of the project in its first year and to plan the activities of the second year. Members of the steering, scientific, quality, and dissemination committees have participated in the two-day meeting.
A team led by Ms. Roisin McCabe, Programme Manager, of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), together with Professor Ahmad Abu-EI-Haija, Director, National Tempus Office, Jordan, and Mr. Yazeed Taani, National Tempus Office, Jordan, visited Princess Sumaya University for Technology on 1 December 2013 to monitor the progress of MUREE. All Jordanian members of MUREE participated in the monitoring visit.
A senior management consisting of the president of University of Jordan, Jordan University for Science and Technology, the vice president of Mutah University and the MUREE Jordanian team, visited Sapienza University de Roma and UNED in the period 17-23 June 2013 in order to have a first hand look at the Bologna Process implementation in renewable energy education.
A number of seminars on the Bologna Process were presented by Professor Luciano Saso, Deputy Rector for International Mobility, Sapienza University, in the period 8-11 July 2013, in order to provide information on the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area encouraging Jordanian Universities to harmonize their education system in order to favour exchanges of Students and Scholars.
A meeting for all Jordanian partner universities was held at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) on 6 January 2014, to follow up on the ‘Detailed Design of Pilot Courses’. The partner universities engaged in detailed discussions that centered on the development of curriculum of the six proposed courses: Energy Conversion, Renewable Energy Systems, Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal Energy, Wind Energy, and Drives and Machines. The meeting concluded with the parties agreeing on specific delegation of responsibilities and an action plan for the submission of the completed curriculum designs after completion of academic visits to EU partner universities.
Two seminars in Entrepreneurship in Renewable Energy were held at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) on Tuesday, 27 January 2014, and in Jordan University of Science and Technology on Wednesday, 28 January 2014, as part of MUREE activities. Both seminars were delivered by Professor Rafael Castañeda from Cadiz University, Spain, in addition to Professor Issa Batarseh, President of PSUT, and Mr. Fathalla Al-hallaj from NetEnergy Company, Jordan. The purpose of the seminars was to promote the culture of entrepreneurship in university education and targeting a diverse group of participants including students, professors, engineers, businessmen entrepreneurs and environment activists
A partner meeting was held at Princess Sumaya University for Technology on 18 March 2014. The purpose of the meeting was to follow up on the preparation of the MUREE courses, and to discuss the technical visits dates to the EU partners.
A progress meeting was held at University of Cyprus, Cyprus, in the period 10-11 September 2014. The purpose of the meeting was to monitor the status of the project in its second year and to plan the activities of the third year.

Several visits to Sapienza University, University of Cyprus, TU-Berlin and Graz University of Technology have taken place by teams consisting of members of academic and technical staff in all Jordanian partners, namely Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), University of Jordan, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), Hashemite University, Mutah University and NetEnergy. . The visits aimed at providing the participants with academic and technical training in RES, as well as training in technical aspects of scientific measurement and the use and maintenance of state-of-the-art equipment for RES. The participants also had the opportunity to visit a Solar Concentration plant,PV plants, and biomass power labs.
Two new traditional renewable energy educational laboratories were installed and run at PSUT to serve the purpose of simulating cases of energy generation and giving students from all Jordanian partner universities the opportunity for first-hand experience.
Four remote laboratories which can be accessed by students through the internet were set up and tested at PSUT, JUST, Hashemite University and Mutah University. The 4 labs will be integrated into a virtual learning environment and enable students to run and perform experiments from anywhere at anytime.
A spin-offs workshop was organized at MUTAH University on 24 November 2014 to showcase new products development, projects and activities by IGFOTON. The workshop was delivered by Professor Rafael Castañeda from Cadiz University, Spain, in addition to Mr. Fathalla Al-hallaj from NetEnergy Company, Jordan. Professor Thafer Assaraira, Vice President and Professor Omer Maaitah, Dean of Engineering were among more than 50 attendees who included key renewable energy expert and stakeholders in the south of Jordan and many undergraduate and postgraduate students.
A progress meeting combining the steering committee and scientific committee was held at Jordan University of Science and Technology on 25 November 2014 and Princess Sumaya University on 26 November 2014 in order to discuss and to monitor the quality and status of the project and to plan ahead activities for the remaining part of activities.
An information Day was held in University of Jordan on 24 December 2014 to disseminate MUREE activities. Graduation projects in the field of renewable energy were presented to an audience of various stakeholders and invited entities from public administrations, ministries, research centers, and companies.
The Hashemite University organized a workshop entitled: "Solar PV Systems: the European Experience”, on Wednesday 17/12/2014 as one of MUREE activity to build Jordan capacity’s in the field of renewable energy. All 81 participants made field visits to various projects on PV systems to have a first-hand an look on the different types of PV panels, components, on-grid, off-grid, fixed, and trackers, and economic impact of current HU PV projects.
The last dissemination committee meeting was held at TU-Berlin in the period 25-27 January 2015 with participation of representatives from UoJ, JUST, MUTAH, and UCY. The meeting was very fruitful and various activities were conducted in order to disseminate MUREE. A number of activities were also planned ahead including organising various dissemination workshops for RE promotion and the creation of a renewable enrgy netwrok in Jordan.
A delegation from five Jordanian universities made a training visit to UNED in the period 19-25 January 2015 to discuss issues related to adaptation and integration of remote laboratories and E-learning courses into VLE. In addition, the visit had a group training sessions and one-to-one consultations among UNED and the Jordanian experts.
Princess Sumaya University for Technology held a workshop on 24 February 2015 for all staff and students who have conducted technical training in EU partner universities. Over 25 staff and students have taken part in this activity and staff and students who participated in the visits have given presentation about their experience and involvement on the project.
A team from University of Jordan visited University of Cyprus in the period 19-24 January 2015 to be trained on renewable energy experiments and state-of-the-art equipment set-up, usage, operation and maintenance. The purpose of this activity was mainly to establish a training centre at UoJ. Another visit was made to Sapienza University in the period 28-30 January 2015 in order to receive training on new educational tools and distance learning courses on renewable energy.
A dissemination workshop on renewable enrgy promotion was organised on Wednesday 25/2/2015 at Mutah University. Many Students and stakeholders from the local community in the southern region of Jordan have partcipated in the workshop.
Professor Ahmad Abu-EI-Haija, Director, National Tempus Office, Jordan, and Ms. Reem Alkhader,National Tempus Office, Jordan, visited Princess Sumaya University for Technology on 23 March 2015 tomonitor the progress of MUREE. All Jordanian members of MUREE in addition to a team from UNED andProfessor Mike Blakemore, the project’s external evaluator, participated in the monitoring visit.
A scientific committee meeting was held at Hashemite University on 21 April 2015 and Princess Sumaya University for Technology on 22 April 2015 focusing on the progress of teaching MUREE courses at all universities and on the fact that these courses should be aligned with ECTS.
An official opening of the MUREE laboratories which was patronised by Professor Mashhour Al-Refai, PSUT president, took place on 22 April 2015 and attended by MUREE partners as well as professors and students.
A training workshop was organised at Mutah University on Tuesday 28 April 2015 in order to transfer the experience gained by staff trained in EU partners to students and stakeholders from local community interested in the renewable energy field in the southern region of Jordan. Over 100 participants attended the workshop.
