A scoping and needs analysis is currently being conducted to investigate the current status quo of renewable energy in Jordan. The investigation has commenced with desk research, survey on paper and online formats, and interviews with appropriate stakeholders, focusing on all academic programmes being in offer in the field of renewable energy, actual market demands, trends and needs as well government policies and regulations. JUST is leading this study, in partnership with PSUT and Hashemite University.

To promote the Bologna process in Jordan, visits of Senior Management in Jordanian universities to UNED, Spain and Sapienza University of Rome, Italy will take place for a period of 3 days each in April and May 2013 in order to have a first-hand look at the implementation of the Bologna process in renewable energy education in Europe.

A 2-day workshop will be held at Graz University of Technology, Austria in the period 10-12 April 2013 to update the renewable energy curricula and study plans and select 4 pilot courses. A tentative list of courses may include: Generation Systems, Energy Conversion, Fossil Fuel Technologies, Hydro-Electric Plant Technologies, Renewable Energy Systems, and Power Electronics.

A long-term capacity building plan which aims at developing human resources and upgrading skills and capacities of university professors, technical assistants and students in the field of renewable energy will be prepared during the workshop on curricula updating to be held in the 2-day workshop in Graz University of Technology, Austria in the period 10-12 April 2013.

Professor Mike Blakemore was appointed as external evaluator to MUREE. He has extensive expertise in EU projects, including TEMPUS. Professor Mike Blakemore will verify the quality of the project, the achievement of milestones and objectives, and evaluates the results of each WP based on the mid-term and final report as well as on audits with the project partners.

A Jordanian top management team visited Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and UNED, Spain; in the period 17-23 June 2013 in order to have a first-hand look at the implementation of the Bologna process in renewable energy education in Europe. In addition, a number of seminars on the Bologna Process were presented by Professor Luciano Saso, Deputy Rector for International Mobility, Sapienza University, in the period 8-11 July 2013, in order to provide information on the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area encouraging Jordanian Universities to harmonize their education system in order to favour exchanges of Students and Scholars.

A progress meeting was held at the University of Cyprus in the period 10-11 September 2014 which aimed to monitor the status of the project in its second year and to plan the activities of the third year. Several meetings for all Jordanian partner universities were also held at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT). The first was held on 6 January 2014 to follow up on the ‘Detailed Design of Pilot Courses’. The partner universities engaged in detailed discussions that centered on the development of curriculum of the six proposed courses: Energy Conversion, Renewable Energy Systems, Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal Energy, Wind Energy, and Drives and Machines. The meeting concluded with the partners agreeing on specific delegation of responsibilities and an action plan for the submission of the completed curriculum designs after completion of academic visits to EU partner universities. The second meeting between Jordanian partners was held on 18 March 2014 with the purpose to follow up on the preparation of the MUREE courses, and to discuss the technical visits dates to the EU partners while the third meeting was held on 26 October 2014 to follow up on the progress of the project and to prepare for the upcoming Steering and Scientific Committees meeting which will be hosted by Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) on 25-26 November 2014. The meeting concluded with the parties agreeing on a detailed action plan for the third year of the project.
